ABOUT US

A CAUSE is an initiative started by Avigail Borah to garner the creativity and passion of the poetry slam experience in order  to raise awareness about important  community needs and charitable efforts.

A CAUSE will also serve as a resource to help other communities host their own Slams for A CAUSE.

Please sign up to be on our mailing list.  We will be creating a Toolkit soon with tips, timelines, and advice on setting up your own events.

The Kol Ditzrich Kosher Food Pantry was recently renamed the Rina Shkolnik Kosher Food Pantry in honor of Rina Shkolnik, the JCC’s esteemed Executive Director who recently retired. Through Rina’s commitment and dedication to helping those in need, the pantry has assisted thousands of individuals and families with putting food on their table.

The Rina Shkolnik Kosher Food Pantry is a joint initiative of the Jewish Community Center of the Greater Five Towns and UJA-Federation of New York and is supported by the Five Towns Community Chest and the Inwood Charities Fund.

The pantry assists individuals and families by providing nutritious nonperishable food packages consisting of tuna fish, pasta, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, breakfast cereal and much more. We also provide toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant, tooth brushes and toothpaste and diapers.

There are many ways you can help. We accept kosher non-perishable food products, toiletries, cleaning products and paper goods.

You may also make a monetary contribution.

Please contact the Rina Shkolnik Kosher Food Pantry at 516-295-5678 for ways to get involved.

This program is funded by the Safety Net Initiative of UJA-Federation.

Our Story: TOVA was founded to provide mentors to Jewish teens in Far Rockaway/Five Towns communities. Starting with 2 mentors and 2 teens, the program has grown quickly. We now service all the local Jewish schools and work with children from fourth grade through high school. There are many reasons that children and teens can benefit from mentors: loneliness, family loss, divorce, very large families, changing schools, or just not having a big brother or sister. There are some children who need a little extra support during difficult periods of growing up. TOVA is there for them.
